Early on a Monday morning, before their regular morning alarm, the Collins family received a SMS. Wondering who would text him so early, Kevin read the SMS. It was from ADT Security,telling him that the power supply to the alarm system had failed.
Kevin and his wife Colleen checked their home and discovered a problem in the power meterbox. A small fire had broken out, cutting the electricity to their home. They immediately called the fire brigade and the fire was extinguished with little fuss. And later that daythe power company repaired the damage andlife quickly returned to normal.
Of course, small fires rarely remain small, but quickly grow. In the Collin’s family case, the fire could easily have developed into something that caused significant damage to their property, or could have even proved fatal. And they might not have been aware of it until it was too late.
Immediately the power was cut by the fire, ADT Security’s Auto Notify system determined there was a problem and sent the SMS. After investigating the problem and calling the authorities, the Collins’ family were safe. In total,it took just fifteen minutes to bring the situation under control.
One of the advantages of the advanced technology in ADT’s Safe and Sound system is the ability to configure the system so that each alarm ‘event’ has its own ‘auto-notify’ response. In the Collin’s case, they have the system configured so that a power fail event triggers a SMS. Other events, such as low battery, can trigger an SMS, email, or a personal call from ADT Security’s Monitoring Services.
