ADT Security Integrated Systems
In 2005, RailCorp selected ADT Security’s Integrated Systems team to carry out approximately $25 million of security works onthe CityRail network through to April 2010.
ADT Security currently maintain CityRail’s CCTV services and has been involved in the installation and maintenance of the system for a number of years.
The system was originally installed in 1999/2000 under the NSW State Government’s Safe Stations initiative. Since then ADT Security have expanded the system to more than 6,300 cameras.
A major challenge of the job is the size and geographic spread of the CityRail system. The availability of quality CCTV images from every CityRail station is an important part of RailCorp’s strategy for maintaining high securityof staff and passengers.
ADT Security, part of Tyco Fire & Security, is one of the world’s largest electronic security companies and is well equipped to carry out these important works and provide CityRail with a world-class, highly sophisticated electronic security system, which has been specifically designed and built for their needs. RailCorp have found the system useful for not only passenger security but also for operations management including:
- Incident management. CCTV footage improves their ability to return to normal service.
- Monitoring passenger movements. CityRail is able to use this additional information for capacity planning and to monitor sudden increases in passenger movements on platforms and around station entrances.
- Maintenance and management of fixed assets. RailCorp is able to monitor some specific assets to determine whether maintenance or intervention is required. CCTV footage provides a record in the event of an incident.
With almost one million passengers travelling on the network each day, the contract with RailCorp demonstrates ADT Security’s commitment to helping protect Australians by using the highest quality security systems.
