DNA Guardian™ – your silent security partner
Designed specifically for small businesses such as pubs, convenience stores, jewellers and petrol stations, DNA Guardian is a security solution avaliable from ADT Security that uses DNA technology to establish a forensic link between suspects and the crime scene.
How does DNA Guardian work?
Installed above the entry/exit point of your business, DNA Guardian sprays a non-toxic solution on suspects as they leave the premises.
This solution contains a specific chemical code, much like human DNA, and stays on skin, clothing and stolen items for at least six weeks – even after washing.
The solution found in each DNA Guardian unit is unique to your business, and therefore provides the crucial information required for fast and accurate offender identification.
Here's how it works:
- Robbery or theft takes place.
- A staff member activates the DNA Guardian unit by various activation devices.
- As the suspect approaches the exit, a fine colourless mist is sprayed onto his or her clothing, skin and any goods in their posession. The system can also mark multiple offenders.
- Once police apprehend the suspect, a UV marker identifies the chemical code that's been left on their skin, clothing or goods.
- A swab can then be taken for forensic analysis. If this swab matches the solution in your DNA Guardian unit, police have additional evidence that the suspect was at the crime scene.

DNA Guardian has a 100% conviction rate worldwide and is more of a deterrent than Police patrols according to Martin Gill Research. In South Australia after a spate of jewellery store hold ups, approximately 1 hold up a month until October 2009, the Jewellery Association held a crisis security inviting DNA Security Solutions spoke as well as SA Police.
After fitting many units within that month in the main areas of Adelaide there have been no more armed robberies in Jewellers since.
