Security & Crime Statistics in Perth
Protecting our families, businesses and property are one of our highest priorities as a community. Although Perth is a relatively safe place to live and do business, there is still a significant amount of crime against property that you need to be aware about so that you’re prepared for the worst.
The following statistics are using the WA Police Force’s official figures and cover Perth’s district.

Burglary Statistics in Perth
Burglaries are one of the most common types of property crimes. Most people associate robberies and burglaries with theft, however, they’re two very different crimes. Burglaries occur when the thief breaks into the property for the purpose of stealing the victim’s property. Whilst robberies are when the criminal forces the owner of the property or business to provide them with their property through violence or the threat of violence.
Burglaries against dwellings are much more frequent than those that impact non-dwellings. In 2018-19 there were 1,117 burglaries for dwellings, which represents a 29% increase compared to 2009-10 and a 7% increase compared to 2014-15.
Burglaries against non-dwellings occurred 698 times in 2018-19 which represents a 25% increase compared to 2009-10 and a 14% increase compared to 2014-15. Over the past ten years there has been a consistent increase in the number of burglaries in Perth.

Robbery Statistics in Perth
Robberies are a lot less common than burglaries in Perth and they have decreased over the past ten years. This is good news as robberies are a much more violent crime than burglaries and have a bigger impact on their victims.

Shoplifting Statistics in Perth
Statistics for shoplifting have only been recorded over the past few years for Perth by the WA Police Force. However, in that brief period of time it is clear to see that shoplifting represents a significant share of the instances of property crimes against businesses.
